How Far in Advance Should You Book a Removals Firm

Removals van ready for a booked moving date

Most people either book far too early to be accurate or far too late to get the date they want. The honest answer sits in between, and it depends on whether your date is fixed.

This guide sets out realistic notice periods for the North East, and what we can still do at short notice.

Sensible notice by move type

  • Rented move with a known end date: two to four weeks is comfortable.
  • House purchase with completion pending: enquire early, confirm as soon as dates exchange.
  • Student move in or out: book before the term rush, as the same fortnight is busy across Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland.
  • Office or shop relocation: four to six weeks, because it usually needs an evening or weekend slot.
  • Single item or furniture delivery: often bookable within the same week.

Why some dates go first

Fridays, the last few working days of the month and school holiday weeks are the busiest slots in removals. If your dates are flexible by even a day or two, say so when you enquire and we will point you at the cheaper, quieter options.

When your completion date is not confirmed

You do not have to wait for certainty to talk to us. Tell us the likely window and we will hold what we can and keep the quote valid, then firm it up when you have a date.

If completion slips, storage between dates is usually the cheapest way to protect the booking rather than cancelling and starting again.
