Relocating an Office Without Losing a Trading Day

Office furniture and crates prepared for relocation

An office move succeeds or fails on preparation. The physical lifting is the easy part; the labelling system is what gets people working on Monday.

Six weeks out

  • Confirm the new floorplan and number every desk position on it.
  • Take an inventory of desks, chairs, cabinets and anything unusually heavy.
  • Check lift, loading bay and out-of-hours access rules at both buildings.
  • Agree with your IT provider who disconnects and reconnects what.

The week before

  • Every crate and item gets the destination desk number from the floorplan.
  • Staff clear personal items into their own labelled crate.
  • Confidential material is packed and sealed by its owner.
  • Surplus furniture is separated for storage or disposal.

The move itself

Out of hours where possible, with the crew working to the numbered plan so nothing needs deciding on site. Desks are rebuilt and positioned before we leave, so day one is unpacking rather than assembly.
