Insurance is the claim people check hardest when choosing a remover, and it is also the one most often misunderstood. Every LMD Logistics job is carried out fully insured, with goods in transit and public liability cover in place.
This guide explains in plain UK English what those two things cover, where the limits sit, and what you should ask before anyone loads your belongings into a van.
Goods in transit cover
Goods in transit cover applies to your belongings while they are in our care: loaded, carried, driven and unloaded. It is the cover that matters most on moving day itself.
It exists so that if something is damaged or lost while we are handling it, there is a clear route to putting it right rather than an argument on the pavement.
Public liability cover
Public liability is separate and covers damage to property or injury to other people while we are working, for example a scuffed communal stairwell or a damaged doorframe at either end of the move.
Letting agents, landlords and commercial landlords often ask to see this before allowing a move in or out of a managed building, so tell us early if paperwork is needed.
What insurance does not replace
- Items packed by you that were not packed securely enough for transport.
- Pre-existing damage, wear or self-assembly furniture that was never built to be moved twice.
- Anything on the do-not-transport list, such as hazardous or perishable goods.
- Cash, jewellery, passports and documents, which should always travel with you.
Questions to ask any remover
- Is goods in transit cover in place, and does it apply to my whole move?
- Do you hold public liability cover, and can you confirm it for my building manager?
- How do you handle a damage report, and who do I speak to?
- Will the people on the day be your own team or subcontracted?
