Boxes are the easy part. The awkward parts of a move are usually living things and heavy instruments, and each needs a decision before the day rather than on it.
Pets on moving day
- Keep pets in one closed room, or better, off site with family or a day boarding place.
- Pets travel with you, never in the removals van.
- Pack food, bowls, litter, medication and a familiar blanket in a bag that travels in your own car.
- Set up one quiet room first at the new address so there is somewhere calm to settle them.
Plants in transit
Plants dislike long unventilated journeys and sliding around in a loaded van. Short local moves across Durham or Tyne and Wear are usually fine in trays with the soil slightly dry.
For a long distance move, plants are far happier in your own vehicle. Tell us in advance either way so they are loaded last and unloaded first.
Pianos and heavy instruments
