Boxes are the easy part. The awkward parts of a move are usually living things and heavy instruments, and each needs a decision before the day rather than on it.
Pets on moving day
- Keep pets in one closed room, or better, off site with family or a day boarding place.
- Pets travel with you, never in the removals van.
- Pack food, bowls, litter, medication and a familiar blanket in a bag that travels in your own car.
- Set up one quiet room first at the new address so there is somewhere calm to settle them.
Plants in transit
Plants dislike long unventilated journeys and sliding around in a loaded van. Short local moves across Durham or Tyne and Wear are usually fine in trays with the soil slightly dry.
For a long distance move, plants are far happier in your own vehicle. Tell us in advance either way so they are loaded last and unloaded first.
Pianos and heavy instruments
Upright pianos, safes, gym equipment and large ceramics are not impossible, they simply need to be known about when we quote. The crew size, the equipment and sometimes the vehicle change.
Tell us the item, the floor it is on, the doorway widths and whether there are stairs or a lift. That single message is the difference between a smooth lift and a stalled morning.

Will you carry my pets?
Pets should always travel with you in your own vehicle, not in the removals van.

Local moves usually yes, if they are packed upright and loaded last. For long distance moves, take them yourself where you can.
Is a heavy item covered by your insurance?
