Check the restrictions at both ends
- Permit-holder-only bays around university and city-centre streets.
- Loading restrictions during peak hours on main roads.
- Bollards, height barriers and gated estates that need a code or a key.
- Narrow back lanes on older terraced streets where a Luton can't turn.
What to arrange in advance
Some councils allow a temporary bay suspension or a permit for removals — worth checking a couple of weeks out where street parking is tight. Where that's not possible, asking neighbours to leave a space is often quicker and free.
Flats and shared buildings
- Book the goods lift with building management if there is one.
- Find out whether the main door can be propped and for how long.
- Check whether there's a designated loading area, and its time limit.
