Two houses with the same number of bedrooms can be quoted very differently, and it is rarely because one firm is trying it on. Removals pricing comes down to time, and a handful of things decide how long a job takes.
Here is what genuinely moves the number, in the order it usually matters.
Volume, not room count
What fills the van is what you are paying for. A minimalist three bed can be a smaller job than a cluttered two bed with a full loft and a garage.
Access at both ends
- Stairs, and how many turns are in them.
- Lift access, and whether the lift is big enough for a sofa.
- How close the van can park to the door.
- Narrow back lanes, shared drives and gated developments.
Distance and route
Local moves inside the North East are priced on the job. Long distance moves add driver hours, fuel and sometimes an overnight, and they are usually cheaper if your date is flexible enough to line up with a run we are already making.
Timing
- Fridays and month ends are the busiest slots in the trade.
- School holidays and bank holiday weekends fill early.
- Midweek dates are the easiest to book and the easiest to price well.
How much you have packed
A crew that arrives to a fully boxed house works to a plan. A crew that arrives to half packed drawers and loose kitchen contents spends the morning doing work that could have been done for less.
